Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure Company standards in terms of safety for passengers on the River Thames.
  • Comply with SMS regulations and ensure crew follow them.
  • Provide onboard safety training for all crew members.
  • Navigate vessels safely in accordance with passenger plan and PLA by-laws.
  • Safe mooring with caution for embarking/disembarking passengers.
  • Provide vessel safety announcement at each pier.
  • Conduct safety crew briefing before service.
  • Account for and safely embark/disembark passengers at recognised locations.
  • Carry out daily vessel log checks with attention to safety equipment and engines.
  • Report maintenance checks or incidents per SMS.
  • Check fuel levels and fuel vessel before service.
  • Ensure adequate fresh water supply for passengers.
  • Keep vessel clean and tidy per SMS and London Port Health regulations.
  • Provide best customer experience while sightseeing with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal].
  • Lead by example, well presented in Company uniform.
  • Promote onboard sales and other Company products.
  • Be an Ambassador for RESPECT Service System & Values.

Requirements & Qualifications

Successful applicant must be signed off on specific vessels during probation: MV Westminster, Mayflower Garden, Jessica, Amy, Princess Rose, City Alpha, City Gamma and Millennium of London. Able to act as mate across entire fleet.

Educational Level/Qualifications

  • SCTW95 Seaman Certificate.
  • BML (Boat Master’s Licence) Tier 1 & 2.
  • LKE (Local Knowledge Endorsement).
  • RYA PB2 (Power Boat Level 2).
  • Large Passenger Vessel endorsement (LPV).

Experience/Knowledge Required

  • Experience operating as Captain of large passenger vessels for 2 years.
  • Knowledge of vessel maintenance and engineering.
  • Able to provide Thames commentary between Westminster and Greenwich.

Desirable

  • Full understanding of Health & Safety afloat and ashore and SMS implementation.
  • Experience in hospitality industry.

  • Experience of River Thames commentary/guiding.
