Job Description

Join [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] as a Transfer Station Operative at Northumberland Wharf, ensuring safe, efficient waste handling and supporting a cleaner London.

At [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], we play a vital role in keeping London clean and sustainable by managing waste responsibly. Our Transfer Station at Northumberland Wharf is a key part of this mission, and we’re looking for a dedicated Transfer Station Operative to join our hardworking team. This is more than just a job—it’s an opportunity to contribute to a cleaner city and a greener future.

As a Transfer Station Operative, you’ll be at the heart of our operations, ensuring the smooth and safe handling of household and commercial waste. You’ll work closely with a team of skilled operatives, supporting the day-to-day running of the site and occasionally assisting at the Reuse and Recycling Centre (RRC). Every task you take on helps us deliver an efficient service to the community.

Your responsibilities will include operating machinery and cranes, or learning to do so if you’re new to this area. You’ll also help maintain a clean and tidy site, ensuring we meet health and safety standards and keep our neighbours happy by preventing complaints. This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same, and your contribution will make a real difference.

At [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], we value inclusivity and diversity. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and actively support veterans and reservists through our Armed Forces Covenant. If you’re looking for a role where you can learn, grow, and be part of a supportive team, this could be the perfect fit.

Job Requirements

  • Flexible, can-do attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Previous experience at a Transfer Station or Reuse & Recycling Centre is helpful but not essential – training provided.
  • Commitment to working safely and effectively as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills and ability to adapt to different tasks.
  • Shift work including scheduled weekends (rotating: 06:00–14:00, 14:00–22:00, and weekend shifts 08:00–18:00).
  • Ability to arrive on time for shifts.
  • Comfortable working outdoors and keen to develop new skills (e.g., operating mobile and fixed plant machinery).
  • Takes pride in work and understands importance of site cleanliness and safety.
