Job Description

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Group is recruiting for the position of Mechanical Engineer at their Energy from Waste (EfW) Facility in Belvedere, Kent. We operate one of the largest energy from waste facilities in the country, located on the banks of the River Thames in London. With a second EfW under construction and expansions in our waste transfer business, you will play a pivotal role in our future success.

Primary Purpose of the Role

The Mechanical Engineer will be primarily responsible for supporting the development of the strategic elements and resilience of the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Group as a business to be best in class. They will plan and develop major outage projects as well as provide technical support to the Maintenance Team when required to help maintain high plant availability.

The Mechanical Engineer is expected to form a professional relationship and work closely with the Operations, Maintenance, Assurance and Logistics teams to: maximise the operational efficiency of the EfW Facility at Belvedere; develop Best Practices for resilience of the Assets; and consolidate contracts for continual improvement with cost efficiencies.

The Mechanical Engineer works as part of the Engineering team who are responsible for the medium to long term asset care and replacement strategy. This includes responsibilities in the following areas:

  • Health and Safety – ensuring that both equipment and project execution meets the company’s high standards and all statutory requirements
  • Asset Replacement Strategy – accounting for obsolescence, opportunities for improvement and technological change
  • Financial Management – assisting in the development of annual, six year and fifteen-year outage maintenance & Capex budgets and reviewing the financial performance and expenditure against the budget.
  • Asset Reliability – becoming a technical expert for an assigned area and assisting with problem solving and application of advanced maintenance techniques.

The successful candidate will achieve the above by:

  • Taking technical responsibility for a significant percentage of the Plant
  • Providing technical expertise to assist with diagnosing problems and producing improvement plans
  • Initiating and managing improvement projects within that responsibility area
  • Initiating and managing maintenance contracts such as long-term service agreements (LTSAs)
  • Assisting with developing and executing outage plans

Job Requirements

The Person

The successful candidate is likely to be making strong progress towards Chartered status and support in achieving this will be provided. This would normally be accompanied by further salary progression.

Experience

A proven track record working as a Mechanical Technician or higher in an EfW or similar setting, e.g. heavy industry or manufacturing.

Qualifications

  • Holder of an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Actively working towards professional registration (IEng/CEng).
  • Safety qualification, e.g. NEBOSH.
