Job Description
This role works in close collaboration with the Risk, Safety & Compliance to ensure all [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] vessels remain compliant under UK flag rules and ensure Safety remains our number one priority.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum afloat experience as First mate (or higher rank)
- UK Boatmasters’ Licence (BML) or Certificate of Competency (CoC) preferred.
- Experience managing Statutory Flag, and Classification requirements.
- Experience in high-speed craft and passenger operations.
- Experience in managing safe systems of works, & vessel operational procedures/manuals.
- Experience in vessel ISM audits and safety inspections.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain all vessel manuals, safety plans, and safety management systems are current, and meet legal and regulatory compliance across the business.
- Support the Head of Risk, Safety and Compliance-DP to engender a safety-first culture throughout the business, this includes regularly reviewing the effectiveness of the Safety Management System (SMS), ensuring compliance with the ISM & HSCC.
- Lead and coordinate the internal ISM/ISO auditing programme, ensuring audits are conducted in line with the audit matrix and timelines are met.
- Ensure that all ships certification is maintained and up to date.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, classification societies, flag states, and port authorities during inspections and audits.
- Conduct vessel and site inspections to ensure company and regulatory standards are met.
- To ensure all incident & Near miss reports are investigated, closed in a timely manner and any lessons learnt shared with the relevant departments.
- To hold safety meetings with company safety reps and to collate and review all reports from Safety Committees to ensure the appropriate action is taken to address safety problems
- Working closely with all Managers to identify safety training needs, supporting the scoping, design and delivery of suitable training to meet identified needs for safety and compliance.
- Observe and analyse trends within the Centrik reporting structure and NCN’s including technical reports, and ensure mitigations are implemented to prevent recurrence.
- Assist the department in monitoring changes in maritime legislation, codes, and best practices, ensuring company policies and SMS documentation are updated accordingly.
- Work collaboratively across departments, ensuring safety and compliance considerations are embedded in new projects, vessel modifications, and operational planning
- Stay up to date with developments in maritime legislation, safety innovations, and industry best practices, sharing learnings across the organisation and supporting continuous improvement
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to engage crews and managers, promoting accountability and ownership of safety at every level

Location and Travel
