Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated, enthusiastic and adaptable Band 7 Therapeutic Radiographer/Advanced Practitioner to join our brachytherapy work force and be part of a friendly and patient focused Radiotherapy Team. The Deanesly Centre, based at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], is a paperlite radiotherapy facility equipped with four Elekta HD Linear Accelerators and has a fully integrated Mosaiq network. The department is innovative and has developed the service it delivers to embrace new technology, offering IMRT, VMAT, DIBH (voluntary breath hold and using Elekta ABC), IGRT, SABR, 4DCT/4DCBCT and gynaecological Brachytherapy. This offers plenty of learning and development opportunities for all staff members. The team includes our dedicated booking team, support workers, assistant practitioners, therapeutic radiographers, advanced practitioners and Consultant Therapeutic radiographers, and provides a fantastic opportunity for you to develop your career with us. Applicants must have substantial clinical experience and expertise within both Radiotherapy and Brachytherapy, be adaptable to support service needs and able to communicate effectively with all members of the Oncology team.

Main Duties of the Job

  • To support the brachytherapy/gynecology patient pathway from MDT to completion of radiotherapy treatment. To include participation in the MDT, support new patients, actively support and manage clinical radio-therapeutic aspects of external beam and brachytherapy service, delineation of organs at risk, on treatment patient reviews and prescribing of medication under non-medical prescribing framework.
  • To conduct departmental audit and development primarily for gynecological patient pathway. Take part in research and audit as appropriate to area of work to ensure that radiotherapy practice undertaken is evidence based and liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • To act as brachytherapy advisor within the radiotherapy department.
  • To be responsible for supporting radiotherapy service development for brachytherapy through the clinical implementation of technical development strategies and/or process change.
  • To be responsible for highly specialized training requirements for radiotherapy staff and students with regard to changes within the gynecology pathway.
  • To develop and implement policies and procedures following change of practices and innovation within the brachytherapy service as required.
  • To assist the Radiotherapy Operations Manager in the implementation and management of change within the radiotherapy service.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

PROFESSIONAL

  1. To assist in the provision of all aspects of the radiotherapy brachytherapy service to ensure the highest quality patient care with continuous collaboration/co-operation with other Band 7 therapeutic and medical physics staff to ensure a seamless service.
  2. To support managing and coordinating the patient pathway through radiotherapy for patients receiving brachytherapy.
  3. To Liaise with and work alongside medical physics and medical staff to develop appropriate clinical treatment pathways for brachytherapy patients, ensuring that national recommendations and guidelines are incorporated.
  4. To provide expert support for brachytherapy patients undergoing radiotherapy treatment pathway.
  5. To act as expert advisor within area of radiotherapy techniques to assist the strategic planning and long-term goals of the radiotherapy service for brachytherapy.
  6. To write, maintain and develop protocols and procedures for any new or updated radiotherapy technique, to guide multidisciplinary staff for the brachytherapy patient.
  7. To take an active part in the strategic planning of the radiotherapy service, to include presentations and formal meetings as required.
  8. To fully participate in the clinical rota for all radiotherapy patient reviews.
  9. To participate in the radiographer, student radiographer and junior doctors training programs, programs supervising and demonstrating procedures to qualified and/or unqualified staff as required.
  10. To work in liaison with all disciplines in implementing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating clinical and technical requirements to ensure optimum service quality.
  11. To undertake clinical audits as required monitoring practice.
  12. To maintain up to date knowledge of clinical/technical developments, attending such courses/in service training as indicated by the need of the service.
  13. To bring to the attention of the Head of Radiotherapy, Radiotherapy Operations Manager, Superintendent Radiographers and Consultant Clinical Oncologists any matter of clinical concern.
  14. To support Radiographers in maintaining and developing professional and personal skills and standards.
  15. To liaise with all other disciplines/specialties/voluntary agencies as required.

  • At least 2 years experience as a Senior I radiographer
  • Brachytherapy experience and patient review
