Advanced Clinical Fellow Cellular Pathology for Portfolio Pathway

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking an Advanced Clinical Fellow in Histopathology to join the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] (BCPS) at New Cross Hospital, Wolverhampton. This fixed-term contract (24 months) offers a salary of £71,018 per annum minimum. The role supports a Portfolio Pathway application for consultant-level histopathology.

Job Overview

Successful appointees will be encouraged and supported in achieving the competencies required for a Portfolio Pathway application in Histopathology, thereby entering the Specialty Register and eventually taking up a consultant position. The job will consist of work in [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Cellular Pathology Department. Cellular Pathology is now fully consolidated and located in a purpose-built integrated Pathology Building on the New Cross Hospital site. Our services provide patient care to Walsall NHS Trust, Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, Dudley Group Foundation Trust, and [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]. Annual workload: 100,000 histology requests, 154,000 specimens, supporting 59 MDTs. The current clinical establishment comprises 31 Consultant Histopathologists, 4 locum consultants, one Consultant Healthcare Scientist, one Specialty Doctor, and 10 Histopathology Trainees.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Develop specialist interests in two or more areas of histopathology (e.g., Gynae, Skin, Haemopath, Lung, Respiratory, Non-Gynae Cytology, Urology and Renal).
  • Portfolio Pathway fellows will be treated as equivalents to core and specialist trainees in Histopathology.

Person Specification

Qualifications – Essential

  • FRCPath Cellular Pathology (Histopathology) examination
  • Previous training in Cellular Pathology
  • Previous experience at senior registrar or consultant level

Qualifications – Desirable

  • Understanding of NHS clinical governance structure, audit process and participation in research

Experience – Essential

  • Ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team and maintain good relations with colleagues
  • Commitment to specialty, self-directed learning, understanding of Portfolio Pathway requirements in the UK

Experience – Desirable

  • Evidence of teaching and training others
