Job Description

The [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] (IISS) is a world-leading authority, whose researchers produce independent analysis to advance a wider understanding of global security, geo-economics and geopolitics. The Institute is seeking to appoint an Associate Editor to contribute to the work of the Editorial Services team. This role reports to the Editorial Services Manager.

Key Duties / Responsibilities

  • Support and develop (including training) a sub-team;
  • Project manage [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] publications (both own and oversight for sub-team’s): dossiers, reports, and research papers for print and digital formats;
  • Draft and achieve stakeholder buy-in for publication schedules;
  • Manage schedules from receipt of approved files to publication in conjunction with the Editorial Services Manager;
  • Take a lead role in copy-editing, proofreading, and quality control;
  • Act as key liaison point between authors, Design and Comms teams;
  • Edit marketing materials for [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] publications as necessary;
  • Engage in broader strategic initiatives as may from time to time be requested by the Head of Publishing;
  • Participate as necessary in product development and sales and marketing discussions for [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] publications.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in copy-editing and proofreading print and digital content;
  • Demonstrable experience of managing schedules and working to tight deadlines;
  • Demonstrable experience of working on integrated publications with text, maps and infographics;
  • An interest in data visualisation in both print and digital formats;
  • Experience promoting publications through print and digital channels;
  • An interest in the commercial aspects of publishing;
  • Experience of people-management;
  • Experience of working as part of a multifunctional, international team;
  • An understanding of international issues is advantageous;
  • Bachelor’s degree (minimum).
