Job Purpose
This role will lead key initiatives including delivery of NORAD environmental obligations, completion of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s global emissions baseline and carbon‑reduction plan, and integration of environmental sustainability into operations, proposals, and programme support across [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s global portfolio in compliance with IMAS 07.13.
About the Role
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is strengthening its global environmental capability to meet organisational sustainability goals, rising donor expectations, and sector standards. Reporting to the Global Environmental Manager (GEM), this new role will play a central part in driving that progress by supporting the delivery of environmental obligations across key grants - most notably NORAD - and by advancing [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s global Environmental Management System. You will lead completion of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s first organisation‑wide emissions baseline, develop a practical and achievable carbon‑reduction plan, and help guide programmes in integrating environmental sustainability into operational planning, proposals, and delivery. You will work directly with country programmes to improve the environmental performance of offices and remote camps, introduce best‑practice waste and resource‑management systems, and identify emissions‑reduction opportunities across energy, fleet, travel, and procurement.
Responsibilities
- Conduct technical assessment to establish organisational emissions baseline.
- Design and manage carbon footprint data collection system and integrate into [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s systems.
- Develop and implement [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s approach to greening of offices and remote camps.
- Identify and prioritise emissions reduction opportunities across all activities.
- Develop practical guidance and tools to support programmes in reducing emissions.
- Provide direct support to NORAD-funded programmes for environmental obligations.
- Support programmes to reduce environmental footprint in energy, waste, water, procurement.
- Support implementation of waste reduction initiatives including reduction, reuse, recycling.
- Support GEM in implementing Environmental Management System across programmes.
- Contribute to development of environmental tools and systems including training and MEAL.
- Support programmes in thematic proposal content and donor reporting.
- Represent [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] in sector working groups and events.
Requirements
- Relevant academic qualification in environmental management, environmental science, or closely related discipline.
- Knowledge of greenhouse gas/emissions baselining processes including GHG Protocol.
- Practical experience supporting organisational environmental management (e.g., ISO 14001, IMAS 07.13).
- Strong understanding of environmental compliance within humanitarian or donor-funded programmes.
- Proven experience in field operations in mine action, humanitarian or post‑conflict settings.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong data handling, analytical, and reporting skills.
- Willingness to undertake international travel to challenging environments.
