We are currently recruiting for a Quarry Manager to join and lead the fantastic team at our hard rock Harrycroft Quarry, near Worksop in Nottinghamshire. The site is easily accessible and is close to Worksop, Sheffield, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Retford, Rotherham, Mansfield, Bawtry, Mexborough, Wombwell, Dronfield, Dinnington, Maltby, and the surrounding areas. Role Responsibility
The Quarry Manager will manage both colleagues and contractors involved in the Quarrying and Recycled Aggregate operations on our site. Safety and operational standards are the fundamentals of the role of Quarry Manager with people management, delivery to customer needs and performance improvement being key. Managing plant compliance with business policies and procedures and ensuring that legislative compliance is also a strong aspect of the role. Due to the nature of the Quarry, you will be required to be a ‘hands-on’ manager and be involved in the everyday quarrying and recycling activities.
- Responsible for managing, coach and developing a highly skilled, fit for purpose and extremely motivated team to ensure business continuity and reduce business risk
- You will lead change and continuous improvement initiatives, whilst maintaining disciplined stock management processes and producing operational reports
- Understand different methods of winning and extracting raw material
- Knowledge of techniques employed to load extracted minerals and viable options to transport extracted minerals and its applications within the industry, including feeding, crushing, screening, washing, separation, classification and beneficiation techniques
- Knowledge of Recycled Aggregates
- Understanding of the Quarry Regulations 1999 enabling a Reg 8 appointment (either C or D) or be willing to learn
- Maintaining and implementing existing and new, Standard Operating Procedures, risk assessments and training your staff on the same
- Reporting and investigating any unsafe or hazardous working practices
- Issue of safety briefings and toolbox talks to your operational team
- Manage proactively both mandatory training and developmental training of your staff and keep an up-to-date training matrix
- Collate and report on monthly performance KPI for your business unit for the Area Operations Manager and drive operational performance through KPI’s
Key Stakeholders you will liaise with: Quarry Manager - Health & Safety team - Procurement and support teams - National Logistics team - Area Operations teams - Area Commercial teams - Area HR Manager - Industry Bodies – Customers
The Ideal Candidate
To be successful in this role you will have experience and knowledge of:
ESSENTIAL Experience:
- Experienced in Quarry operations
- Previous experience of a Hard Rock Quarry environment – would prove highly beneficial
- Working knowledge of Risk Assessments and Safe System of Work Systems
- Strong knowledge of production processes
- Knowledge of H&S and Environmental policies in the quarrying environment
DESIRABLE Qualifications:
- IOSH Managing Safely
- NVQ in fixed and mobile plant operations
Skills:
- Actively identify and implement site and process improvements
- Able to look for opportunities to identify customer needs
- Effectively communicate to feed opportunities into customer services / sales
