Senior Planning Officer

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Senior Planning Officer to manage complex planning applications and pre-application inquiries in London. This role is based in the Strategic Applications Team and involves managing large regeneration schemes. The position is full-time, permanent, and offers a salary of £48,618 - £55,710.

The Role

The Strategic Applications Team manages the largest planning applications in the borough, including large regeneration schemes in Canada Water, the Aylesbury Estate and Peckham. These projects involve many policy areas, often require GLA referral and may include environmental statements.

You will manage your own caseload of complex applications and pre-application inquiries, including large residential and commercial schemes in a dynamic and exciting part of London. You will work with applicants, communities and consultees to resolve issues, and ensure developments deliver economic and social benefits to our residents while ensuring they meet the highest level of environmental standards.

Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Delivering complex and specialised planning services including development management, the preparation of planning policy, and delivery of planning related projects in accordance with recognised performance standards and delivery plans
  • Contributing to decisions and recommendations regarding development management, planning policy, planning services and planning projects and activities that will have lasting effects on the development of the borough and impacts on the local environment, economy and community
  • The post holder will carry out research, evaluation and work on cases and projects with the potential to impact on the development value of land in the borough, the amount of development that can take place, the delivery of council priorities such as affordable housing and have major environmental impacts
  • Providing advice on the statutory planning process reaching high standards of clarity and accuracy and to ensure that the impacts of planning and transport policy

About You

You may be an experienced planner looking for a fresh challenge or to develop your career with large, complex applications. You will need to be organised and able to take part in complex negotiations to deliver the right scheme and coordinate post-discussion consents so that development takes place in a timely manner.
