Governance and Compliance Officer

Job Description

Overall purpose: To support both [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] (RCL) and [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] in ensuring effective governance, regulatory compliance, and high-quality committee servicing.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary governance contact for [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], providing practical guidance to committee Chairs and stakeholders on governance processes, requirements, and good practice.
  • Ensure that [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] committees and meetings operate in accordance with their approved terms of reference and annual business schedule.
  • Service committees and meetings, including supporting agenda development, distributing documentation, and taking accurate minutes.
  • Maintain and manage committee terms of reference and membership records.
  • Support [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Internal Audits by ensuring actions arising from internal audits are logged and tracked.
  • Monitor [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] audit action progress and proactively follow up with responsible owners.
  • Identify opportunities to improve governance processes and documentation.
  • Liaise with the Data Protection Officer to coordinate responses to Subject Access Requests for [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] in compliance with UK GDPR.

Experience & Personal Qualities

  • Essential: Experience in governance, compliance, or higher education administration; strong attention to detail.
  • Desirable: Experience working with Boards, Senates, or senior committees.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Essential: Experience in committee servicing.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of governance processes; familiarity with data protection regulations (UK GDPR).

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Essential: Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Desirable: Relevant qualification in governance, compliance, or data protection.
