Assistant Service Manager
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]-Global is recruiting for an Assistant Service Manager on behalf of a leading care provider for a service located in Canterbury. This is a vital leadership position designed to support the management of a complex needs service, empowering individuals to live the life they want to live.
- Salary: £29,012 per annum pro rata
- Location: Canterbury

The Service
The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team supporting three adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and communication needs. This is a complex needs service involving a high level of personal care, including moving and handling; one individual is PEG fed. Due to the location of the service, a driver’s license is required.
Role Purpose
- To assist with the management and leadership of the service, reflecting a mission of brighter futures and better lives.
- To maintain compliance with regulatory and statutory guidance, good practice, and relevant legislation.
- To be ready and willing to act on behalf of the Service Manager when they are unavailable.
- In CQC registered locations, to understand Registered Manager responsibilities and be legally responsible for meeting regulation requirements where required.
Accountabilities and Responsibilities
People Support
- Work with the people supported, their families, and Multi-Disciplinary Teams to provide better health care and reduce health inequalities.
- Create a culture that views risk positively to empower individuals and their social networks.
- Work in line with safeguarding legislation to create safe environments where staff and supported individuals feel heard.
Financial Management
- Work alongside the Service Manager to manage income and expenditure in line with organizational policies.
- Monitor financial performance via monthly accounts and participate in the budget setting process.
- Manage labour costs through effective rostering and minimizing agency use.
Leadership and Compliance
- Demonstrate effective practice leadership to ensure a positive and open culture of continuous improvement.
- Proactively resolve staff performance or behavior issues that fall below standards.
- Ensure all training in the service is fully compliant and meet the requirements of the strategic business plan.
Person Specification
Experience
- Experience of working with vulnerable people such as those with learning disabilities, autism, or acquired brain injury (Essential).
- Experience of leading a team (Essential).
- Experience of managing budgets and financial information (Desirable).
- Experience of setting objectives and ensuring they are met (Desirable).
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of sector regulatory bodies and legislation (Essential).
- Proficient IT skills, including Office 365 (Word, Excel, and Outlook) (Essential).
- Holder of L4 RQF Diploma in Adult Care or equivalent, or willing to work towards (Desirable).
- Effective communication at all levels and the ability to negotiate and resolve conflict (Essential/Desirable).
