All about the Role

You will work with victims who are experiencing domestic abuse, where the abusive person is part of the DRIVE Programme. Your role will be to work with and empower victims of domestic abuse to increase their safety, reduce and manage identified risks and where applicable that of their children. You will be key in providing crisis and ongoing support by telephone and or face to face with the victim. The role will require you to collaborate with other services, such as police, social care and probation, to ensure your clients are as safe as possible.

You will be working with a very experienced team of 6 IDVAs, who work across the City from various locations to support their clients. Within the team there are also MARAC Co-ordinators who oversee the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conferences.

All about You

  • Demonstrable experience of supporting individuals affected by domestic abuse, alongside a strong understanding of the dynamics, patterns, and impact of domestic abuse on victims and children.
  • Sound knowledge of how perpetrators use abusive and controlling behaviours within intimate partner relationships and across wider family relationships.
  • Inclusive practice and an informed understanding of domestic abuse experienced by male victims, victims in same‑sex relationships, and all LGBTQ+ survivors.
  • Strong working knowledge of the Criminal Justice System in relation to domestic abuse.
  • Confidence in working collaboratively with criminal justice partners and understanding of legal options and housing rights.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, sensitively, and effectively with survivors and professionals, including discussing complex and emotionally sensitive issues in a trauma‑informed manner.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, problem‑solve, and use advocacy skills to achieve positive outcomes within multi‑agency and criminal justice contexts.
