Service Assistant

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Service Assistant at Forward Steps, Kingfisher Centre, Bretton, Peterborough. Salary: £25,583 - £26,403 per year. Permanent, 27 hours per week. Closing date: 19 May 2026.

All about the Role

We're looking for someone energetic, kind, and enthusiastic to join our team working with adults who have learning disabilities at our Day Opportunities service in Bretton. Your job will be to support people to build confidence, learn new skills, and enjoy their day. You'll help them take part in fun and meaningful activities and support them to be as independent as possible. You'll help plan and run activities both at the centre and out in the community. These might include:

  • Cooking, music, arts and crafts
  • Sports and fitness activities like boxing, cycling, and sailing

You'll support people by encouraging independence, listening to what they want, and making sure they feel respected and included.

Forward Steps is a friendly day service based at The Kingfisher Centre in Bretton. We support people during the day to: try new things, build independence and confidence, make friends and have fun. People usually take part in activities in small groups, based on their interests and goals.

All about You

You don't need to know everything already, but it's important that you: are caring, patient, and respectful; understand that people with learning disabilities and autism may need different types of support; are happy to help with personal care when needed; can work well as part of a team or on your own; have the right to work in the UK. You should also: feel confident talking to people and working with different professionals; be able to use a computer for basic tasks like writing notes; be willing to help people use our transport; use your initiative and stay calm in different situations. Most importantly, you should enjoy helping others, have a positive attitude, and be willing to learn.
