Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated Podiatrist to join the Podiatry Service as a Band 6 Musculoskeletal (MSK) Podiatrist.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering high-quality assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting with a range of MSK foot and lower limb conditions. This will include developing and implementing individualised treatment plans, including orthotic provision, exercise therapy and patient education, to support effective self-management and improved clinical outcomes.
The role will involve working as part of a multidisciplinary team across community and outpatient settings, contributing to the safe, effective and efficient delivery of podiatry services. The post holder will be expected to manage a defined caseload, prioritising patients based on clinical need and service demands. In addition to an MSK caseload, the post holder may also be required to manage a proportion of non-MSK patients, depending on service need.
In addition, the post holder will support the wider team by contributing to service development, audit and quality improvement activities. They will also provide guidance and support to junior staff, assistants and students where appropriate, helping to maintain high standards of care.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice, continuous professional development and delivering patient-centred care.
Main Duties of the Job
- To assess, diagnose, develop and implement individualised treatment programmes for patients presenting with a wide range of musculoskeletal (MSK) foot and lower limb conditions, including biomechanical dysfunction, overuse injuries and gait abnormalities. This will include the use of orthotic therapy, exercise prescription and patient education.
- To plan and manage their own caseload, which will primarily consist of MSK patients but may also include a proportion of non-MSK patients, such as those with chronic disease, vascular risk, neuropathy or wound care needs, depending on service requirements.
- To provide an efficient, effective and consistently high-quality podiatry service, working independently across community and clinic settings.
- To support the smooth day-to-day running of clinical sessions, including maintaining a safe clinical environment, ensuring appropriate stock levels, and reporting any equipment or environmental issues in line with local procedures.
- To contribute to service delivery by managing appointment capacity effectively, maintaining accurate clinical records and sharing relevant information with senior staff to support service planning and performance.
- To work within professional and organisational policies, maintaining high standards of clinical care, infection prevention and health and safety.
