About the Role
Psychologists are integral and valued key members of the Mental Health Care of Older People's multidisciplinary teams (MHCOP) in each borough across East London. Within and across the service, the post holder will be responsible and accountable for the provision of high quality, person-centred and culturally sensitive psychological services to older adults presenting to the service, their families and carers.
Main Duties
- Provide highly specialist psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention for older adults with severe mental health problems and dementia.
- Offer consultation and training to multidisciplinary team members, residential and nursing homes.
- Work closely with psychologists and other professionals across community and inpatient settings.
- Develop partnerships with statutory and voluntary agencies.

Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
- Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology accredited by BPS
- HCPC Registration
- Clinical supervision training for doctoral trainees
- Relevant specialist older adult training including neuropsychological assessment skills
- Training in at least two psychological therapeutic modalities (CBT, CAT, systemic, CFT, NET, EMDR, ACT)
Essential Experience
- Significant experience as a qualified Clinical Psychologist in NHS setting including neuropsychology assessment
- Experience with older adults experiencing severe mental health problems and dementia
- Experience developing and delivering highly specialist psychological interventions and teaching
- Work in a multi-cultural setting including with interpreters
- Working with couples, families, and groups
- Significant expertise with complex and early trauma presentations in later life
- Functional analysis and behavioural assessments for behaviours that challenge
- Experience of multidisciplinary team working
Essential Knowledge
- Ability to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive information in emotive and hostile atmospheres
- Highly specialist skills of empathy to overcome barriers
- Sensitive approach to needs of people with severe mental health difficulties and their carers
- Ability to build good working relationships
- Analytical and judgemental skills for complex formulation
- Ability to provide brief and long-term therapeutic interventions
