Lead Nurse Colposcopist

Job Summary

Are you a passionate Nurse Colposcopist looking for your next opportunity? We are looking for an experienced nurse colposcopist who is passionate about service delivery and patient experience. The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner in colposcopy with in-depth knowledge of national and local colposcopy/screening policies and guidelines. They will assess, diagnose, and treat pre-cancerous/cancerous changes on the cervix and provide follow-up care. The post holder will supervise qualified and unqualified staff, manage the delivery of a colposcopy unit, and represent the views of specialist nurse colposcopists and support staff.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Support the lead consultant colposcopist and CSPL to ensure efficient service delivery.
  • Manage a caseload, providing high-quality patient-focused service.
  • Provide clinical, social, and psychological support using excellent communication skills.
  • Deliver advanced nursing skills within complex care pathways.
  • Undertake total management of women referred to the service, including history, investigations, examination, and management plans.
  • Ensure robust clinical leadership within the sphere of responsibility.

Person Specification

Education, Training and Qualifications

Essential: Appropriate NMC Registration (RGN/RM/RN Child/RSCN), Accredited Colposcopist BSCCP (active), Supporting Learning in Clinical Practice (SLIP) or equivalent, Degree or equivalent. Desirable: Non-medical prescribing qualification, Evidence of further study at Masters level in health-related subject, Post-registration qualification in specialist area, Contraception or Sexual Health experience/qualification.

Experience & Knowledge

Essential: Significant post registration experience at band 7 in relevant clinical specialty, Experience of assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, Experience of working in an MDT and across boundaries, Experience of leading in policy development. Desirable: Experience of project management.

Skills and Ability

Essential: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, Report writing/Presentation skills, Computer literate (Word/Excel/PowerPoint).
