Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic Speciality doctor in Dermatologiy to join our Dermatology Team. This is 4PA fixed term position for 12 months initially but likely to be extended. There is support from 20 consultant dermatologist, specialist dermatology nurses including 2 skin cancer specialist nurses and 2 paediatric specialist dermatology nurses.
The department also has 1 SPR, 2 clinical fellows and 1 VTS trainee. Services available include day case surgery, paediatric dermatology, phototherapy, photodynamic therapy, patch testing and iontophoresis. Specialist Joint Leg Ulcer, Vulval and Male Genital Dermatoses clinics are held and we have an outreach Plastic Surgery service from the Royal Free Hospital.
The post-holder will work with colleagues to support and develop Dermatology services for the local population. You will be based mainly at Watford General hospital but may be asked to work at one other site.
Main duties of the job
The candidate will undertake independent dermatology surgery clinics, supervise junior training and attend skin cancer MDTs. There will be no on-call requirements.
Applicants must have full GMC registration. MRCP (UK) and previous 3 years experience in dermatology is desirable.

Job responsibilities
The Specialty doctor appointed will have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge. He/she will also undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients.
He/she should have ability to work within our large team of consultants, junior doctor, nurses and administrative staff . He/she will be supervised by a consultant dermatologist, Management of the Dermatology Department is under the direction of Kylie Beattie Dermatology Service Manager.
Watford General Hospital, Hemel Hempstead Hospital and St. Alban's City Hospital are situated in a pleasant part of Hertfordshire and afford easy access to London (1/2 an hour by train) and to other parts of England via the M1 and M25 Motorways.
Person Specification
Education and qualifications:
Essential
- Medical degree, MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Full GMC Registration with License to Practice.
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation Competencies in line with GMC Standards/Good Medical Practice.
Desirable
- Higher qualification eg MRCP or MRCGP.
- Diploma in dermatology
Knowledge:
Essential
- Proficiency in diagnosis of skin conditions including skin cancer and performing dermatological minor surgery procedures.
- Successful completion of Foundation Training.
Desirable
- Completion of postgraduate training in dermatology.
Experience:
Essential
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance of audit and research.
- Evidence of active participation in audit.
- Understanding of research principles.
- Previous experience in research activity.
- Active audit interest demonstrated by at least one completed clinical audit in the last 12 months.
- Experience of teaching clinical skills to medical and nursing staff and other discipline.
