Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary
We have had our own Clinical Pharmacy team for several years. You will be working alongside our 4 Clinical Pharmacists and 2 Pharmacy Technicians, be based at our purpose built surgery in Sandbach, and will be an integral part of the clinical team. We are looking to cover a 37 hour post ideally over 4 days, however this could be negotiable. The interviews are to be held on Thursday 29th May 2026.
Main Duties of the Job
- To provide medicines management support to the practice in provision of the delivery of safe, high quality and cost effective prescribing.
- Building strong relationships with the wider primary care team and ensuring the medicines management team are seen as supportive at all times.
- Working with patients to optimise medicines management.
- To develop, support and update working processes within the practice to make more efficient use of practice and NHS resources.
- Supporting multidisciplinary working and development of medicines management services.
- Support the role of the Clinical Pharmacists in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services.

Job Responsibilities
- Support the role of the Clinical Pharmacists in the delivery of clinical pharmacy services.
- Perform medicines improvement work to maximise safe, cost-effective best practice in prescribing under the supervision of the GP or Clinical Pharmacist.
- Assist with medication safety monitoring systems (e.g. high-risk drugs.)
- Liaise with clinicians, administrative staff and patients to resolve medicine-related queries.
- Monitor practice prescribing and local and national prescribing policies.
- Improve service and quality through mechanisms such as audits.
- Support the Clinical Pharmacists in Structured Medication Reviews.
- Undertake patient-facing and patient-supporting roles to ensure effective medicines use through shared decision-making.
- Support medicine reconciliation of patients whose care is transferred back into primary care in a timely and effective manner liaising with patients and other providers to ensure patients receive appropriate medication post discharge.
- Carry out medicines optimisation tasks including effective medicine administration and supporting medication reviews.
- Assist Clinical Pharmacists with any searches (including regular safety searches), data collection, medicine safety tasks.
- Support the practice to deliver on the Quality and Outworks Framework (QOF), Network Contract Direct Enhanced Services and locally commissioned enhanced services.
- Implement changes to medication that result from CAS/MHRA alerts, product withdrawal and other local/national guidance.
- Work collaboratively with the Primary Care Network (PCN) team.
- Develop relationships and work closely with community, hospital and Medicines Management Team (MMT) pharmacy colleagues and the wider health system.
- Participate in practice meetings, patient participation groups and other local meetings to improve engagement with the role of pharmacy technician.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential:
- Understanding of clinical knowledge and principles of evidence-based healthcare
- Experience of dealing with a range of clinical conditions
- Experience of working with delegated responsibility
- Experience of working within a primary care, community or hospital setting
- Experience of coping under pressure in a busy environment
Desirable:
- Minimum of 2 years post qualification
Other Requirements
Essential:
- Flexibility to work outside of core office hours
- Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check
- Maintains confidentiality at all times
Desirable:
- Full UK driving licence
Qualifications
Essential:
- Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical science/pharmacy services
- Evidence of continued professional development
