Finance Operations Manager

Job Summary

The post holder is a senior member of the Finance Team and plays a key role in delivering a strong customer focused finance function. The position leads the delivery of transactional and operational finance processes. The operational finance team deliver consistent controls over receipts and payments, maintain up to date, documented procedures and for AP, AR, treasury, VAT and payroll interfaces. The role exists to protect the organisation from operational finance failure by ensuring that transactional finance activity operates at scale, at pace, and within robust governance and control standards. It supports the finance operating model by delivering reliable transactional information into the ledgers and by sustaining a robust and reliable control environment. The role supports the overall financial control environment of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and supports the strong management of the cash flow within the business and the Trust. The role has primary responsibility for the management of the significant cash flows between [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and KCH.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Oversee operational finance processes (AP, AR, treasury, payroll) with strong financial controls and KPI monitoring to ensure compliance and improvement.
  • Ensure timely and compliant supplier payments in line with NHS payment standards.
  • Manage accurate and prompt invoicing, billing, and credit control, including debt escalation.
  • Support regular cash visibility and short-term forecasting, escalating risks early.
  • Prepare VAT calculations, returns, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Reconcile payroll and expenses accurately, managing exceptions and deductions effectively.
  • Monitor and report on working capital, stock, GRNI and driving actions with stakeholders.
  • Maintain clear procedures and training to ensure consistent and resilient team performance.
  • Support year-end processes and audits with well-organized evidence.
  • Provide ad-hoc financial analysis as needed.

We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Finance Operations Manager to join our Finance team.

This is a senior operational finance role responsible for leading high-volume transactional finance processes across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Treasury and Payroll interfaces. The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining strong financial controls, ensuring operational resilience, and supporting effective cash and working capital management across the organisation.

You will work closely with the Financial Controller, senior stakeholders, suppliers and NHS partners to ensure finance operations are delivered accurately, efficiently and in line with governance standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead operational finance processes including AP, AR, treasury and payroll
  • Ensure robust financial controls, KPI monitoring and continuous process improvement
  • Manage timely and compliant supplier payments in line with NHS standards
  • Oversee invoicing, billing, credit control and debt escalation processes
  • Support short-term cash flow forecasting and working capital management
  • Monitor stock reconciliations, GRNI accounts, accruals and prepayments
  • Prepare VAT calculations, returns and audit-ready documentation
  • Manage payroll reconciliations and associated balance sheet controls
  • Maintain clear operational procedures and strengthen team resilience
  • Support year-end accounts preparation and statutory audits
  • Provide leadership and development support to the transactional finance team

About You

We are looking for a proactive and technically strong finance professional who thrives in a fast-moving operational environment.

Essential Criteria

  • CCAB qualified accountant
  • Significant experience in a senior finance operations or transactional finance role
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, systems and operational finance processes
  • Experience managing high-volume finance environments
  • Knowledge of VAT and statutory audit requirements
  • Experience managing and developing finance staff
  • Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Advanced Excel and financial systems capability

Desirable

  • NHS finance experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics
  • Knowledge of AP/AR automation and process improvement technologies
  • Experience of working capital and cash flow management
  • Project or operational management experience
