Maintenance Technician - Mechanical

The role involves delivering planned and reactive maintenance, fault finding, minor repairs, and ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, HTMs and SFG20. The candidate must have NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering, experience with commercial mechanical systems, a full UK driving licence, and be available for on-call duties. The role offers a salary of £41,000 per annum, company van, tools, and benefits including 27 days annual leave and pension.
Job Summary
The key function is to support [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Services in delivering building services maintenance and repairs across the NHS to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest standards and to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, customers, and employees.
Main Duties of the Job
- Ensure compliance in line with all processes/procedures and policies that meets organisational standards/requirements including but not limited to our Health & Safety Policy/HTMs (Health Technical Memoranda) and SFG20.
- Deliver planned and reactive maintenance services from the PPM planner, ensuring that operational standards are maintained at all times. Duties may include (but not limited to) fault finding, minors repairs or installations and maintaining services and equipment within critical environments.
- Ability to assess problems to determine the best course of action, this would include complex technical issues.
- To maintain effective site log books at all NHS premises ensuring that they are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Work with and support the Projects/Construction team and Technical Supervisor in identifying, scoping, and delivering minor capital works for NHS premises. Able to plan and organise a number of complex activities and adapt within a changing and challenging work environment.

Job Responsibilities

- Starting from £41,000 per annum (depending on experience)
- On Call allowance
- Full-time, permanent
- Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm
- Company van & tools provided
Key Responsibilities:
- Mechanical reactive works and PPMs across a portfolio of sites
- Working on mechanical building services such as: Air Handling Units (AHUs), fan coil units, mechanical plant and associated systems
- Mechanical and plumbing-based tasks including: pressure systems, legionella control, temperature testing, system purging, filter changes
- Supporting statutory compliance activities
- Participation in an on-call rota, with the ability to attend sites within one hour
This is a mechanically biased role and is not suited to domestic-only plumbers or vehicle mechanics. This is a mobile role covering East London, Tower Hamlets and Hackney. To support operational requirements and the on-call rota, candidates should ideally live within approximately one hour / 40 miles of St Leonard's.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering (or Mechanical/Plumbing equivalent)
- Proven experience working on commercial mechanical systems
- Broad knowledge of mechanical and plumbing-based building services
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable:
- Knowledge of BMS systems
- Experience within healthcare, commercial or large estate environments

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential:
- BTEC City & Guilds plus relevant experience and training.
- NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Formal apprenticeship or craft trained equivalent.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Experience
Essential:
- Previous experience working within a buildings maintenance environment.
- Working within the requirements of method statements or permit to work.
- Experience maintaining services to SFG20.
