Job Introduction

We’re seeking a relief Park Ranger to join our progressive and supportive Environment Team at Emberton Country Park - England's first country park. You’ll act as an ambassador for the city council, helping to ensure that park visitors and contractors have a safe and enjoyable experience. Emberton Country Park is a beautiful and busy place to work where no two days are the same. You’ll enjoy meeting people, nature and using your practical skills alongside some office work. The working pattern for Park Rangers is a rota across seven days, with regular weekend working 9am-5pm and includes bank holidays and occasional working from 11am-7pm.

Main Responsibility

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Management and delivery of health and safety responsibilities in the park.
  • Carry out occasional maintenance duties or organise for them to happen.
  • Take bookings, process payments, administration.
  • Support and help deliver the development of volunteer activities in the park.
  • Manage conflicting needs of different park users.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Good with people and customer focused.
  • Enjoys working flexibly in a dynamic working environment where no two days are the same.
  • Confident to work in the country park setting and within the gatehouse.
  • Confident working alone and as part of a supportive team.
  • For this role you are required to have a full UK driving licence and provide evidence of your vehicle insurance with business cover and use of a vehicle. If you are successful, you will be required to supply evidence of your licence prior to starting the role.

Our roles are either designated ‘site based’ or ‘home based’. ‘Site based’ roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst ‘home based’ roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
