Head of Engineering Finance

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Head of Engineering Finance to provide strategic financial leadership for engineering and fleet operations, including financial governance, performance monitoring, planning, and team leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Engineering Financial Leadership: Provide senior financial leadership across all Engineering and Fleet activities; act as primary finance business partner to the COO; lead financial analysis and decision support for major initiatives; represent Finance as core member of Engineering Leadership Team; support ExCom and Board level discussions.
  • Engineering Governance, Controls & Financial Assurance: Own and maintain financial governance framework; ensure compliance with accounting standards; act as Finance lead for audit matters; identify financial risk areas; support contract governance for major suppliers.
  • Monitoring Engineering Financial Performance: Lead monthly performance review; provide clear explanations of variances; oversee development of cost models and forecasting tools; ensure timely reporting.
  • Forward-Looking Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead annual Budget and forecasting processes; develop robust forecasting models; support long-term fleet and maintenance planning cycles.
  • Specialist Accounting & Technical Finance Leadership: Own maintenance reserves and component accounting frameworks; act as Finance lead for lease accounting; provide technical accounting guidance.
  • Business Partnering & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with Head of Commercial Finance and Head of Financial Reporting; collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, Safety and Compliance teams; support external interactions.
  • People Leadership & Team Development: Lead Engineering Finance team; set objectives; embed culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Support major fleet and capital projects; ensure compliance; support system developments; undertake other reasonable duties.

Skills and Knowledge

  • CCAB-qualified accountant with significant post-qualification experience in a complex, asset-intensive organisation.
  • Strong background in management accounting, business partnering or technical accounting within an operational environment.
  • Experience providing financial leadership to senior operational stakeholders, including Executive and Board-level leaders.
  • Experience supporting engineering commercial negotiations with external partners (e.g., MRO's, lessors).
  • Highly proficient in financial modelling, scenario analysis and investment appraisal.

Training and Experience

  • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills with strong financial systems literacy.
  • Experience in engineering, aviation, transport or similarly regulated industries desirable but not essential.
