We are currently recruiting for a Kitchen Assistant to join our wonderful Nursery in Walton on Thames. We are based on the High Street and is a short walk away from Walton-on-Thames train station. We have a strong family atmosphere, and we prepare children exceptionally well for their first steps towards preparatory and primary schools.
We believe in recruiting and training the very best staff to meet the needs of all young babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers in our care, this extends to our support staff too. You will help our chef provide nutritious and varied food that encourages all of our pupils to eat a range of health food. Educating our pupils about good fresh food is a key part of our school day.
You should have the following qualifications & experiences:
As a Kitchen Assistant, you will carry out food preparation as well as cleaning the kitchen and dining area.
You will not usually need any particular qualifications to work as a kitchen assistant, as training can be provided. However, a good standard of general education would be useful and be able to communicate with confidence to both students and staff.
The role:
- Assisting the chef with the preparation and presentation of meals and snacks.
- Serving meals or assisting pupils and guests to serve themselves.
- Ensuring that the kitchen, service areas and dining areas are clean and tidy, and at the standard of cleanliness required by statutory requirements.
- Washing up crockery and cooking equipment.
- Cleaning fridges and store cupboards.
- Keeping up to date with the School’s Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures.
- Attend all mandatory food safety and health and safety staff training.
- Ensuring health and safety regulations are followed at all times.
- Commitment to equality, diversity & inclusion.
- Undertaking any other duties as reasonably required.
The Ideal Candidate:
You will enjoy this role, if you:
- Have experience or an interest in working with children.
- Have a flexible approach to work and a ‘can do’ attitude.
- Have an attention to detail and take pride in your work.
- Enjoy working as part of a team and you are happy to get stuck in and support your colleagues.
- Have good verbal communication skills.
- Are punctual and well presented.
- Ideally have worked in a similar role, however this is not essential if you have the right attitude and you are keen to learn.
- Hold a basic food hygiene certificate level,1 level 2 or level 3, although will be provided.
