Summary

The HCA role assists the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of care. You will liaise closely at all levels within the practice team. To be responsible for the care you deliver but accountable to the trained nursing team. Maintain clinically accurate records and running clinics. Effectively manage own time, workload, and resources. Reflect on own and team activities to identify risks, enhance performance and improve quality of patient care.

Main Duties of the Job

  • Required to undertake; Phlebotomy, Blood Pressures, ECG’s, Process Samples
  • Essential; Care certificate, NVQ2
  • Desirable; AMBPs, Foot checks, Trained in EMIS and ICE

Clinical Duties

  • Phlebotomy
  • ECG recording
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Flu/pneumonia vaccinations under PSD
  • B12 injections under PSD
  • Urinalysis
  • Chaperoning
  • Basic wound care
  • Diabetic foot checks
  • Preparation and processing of laboratory specimens i.e. msu, sputum, faeces, semen
  • Preparing medical equipment by ensuring infection control procedures are adhered to
  • Removal of sutures/clips
  • Ensure clinical waste collection runs smoothly

Non-Clinical Duties

  • Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Ordering of clinical supplies where appropriate
  • Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
  • Checking calibration due dates for equipment
  • Maintain accurate and timely records
  • Attend and participate in nurse meetings
