Power Tools Buyer

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is hiring a Power Tools Buyer to join the buying team. This full-time role involves managing the Power Tools product range, sourcing new brands, negotiating prices, attending trade shows, and collaborating with marketing. Requires 2+ years of power tool buying experience.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Construct and maintain buying matrices for new and current suppliers within the relevant category.
  • Research new brands and products, negotiating best prices, promotions, and rebate packages to maintain competitive position and margin targets.
  • Attend trade shows and conferences in the UK and abroad, leading supplier meetings as required (COVID permitting).
  • Place, forecast, and schedule purchase orders considering stock holding, sales, promotions, warehouse capacity, and lead times.
  • Manage and report on current products to maximize performance, addressing underperforming lines.
  • Upload information to the system ensuring accuracy and resolving queries.
  • Establish strong relationships with new and existing suppliers, ensuring effective communication and efficient issue resolution.
  • Work alongside buying and marketing teams to aid in catalogue and sales brochure creation, including supplier matrices and information gathering.
  • Assist Buying Manager with buying strategy by analyzing market trends, competitor activity, and seeking new product opportunities.
  • Provide advice and guidance to the team in managing product ranges to maximize sales and profits across the department.
  • Support Buying Manager with training and developing new team members, acting as mentor.
  • Assist with introduction of new efficient buying practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and statutory Health & Safety requirements.

Necessary Skills & Attributes

  • GCSE Maths & English to Level 4 or equivalent.
  • Experience in retail or online industry preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience purchasing/buying power tool products.
  • Commercial awareness of buying budgets, forecasts, and margins.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook.
  • High level of verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone manner and professional email correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members at all levels, including senior management.
  • Able to actively and confidently participate in supplier meetings.
  • Must be confident, motivated, and able to work independently.
  • Pleasant, helpful, optimistic attitude with ability to form strong working relationships.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a valuable team member with a flexible can-do attitude.

Salary & Hours

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

Hours: Shifts between 7.45am - 5pm
