The Retail Compliance team works closely with the business to deliver clear, practical compliance advice across all retail banking products. We enable sustainable growth by helping the Bank manage regulatory risk while delivering fair outcomes for clients.
The role will act as a Compliance generalist for the retail bank, delivering pragmatic, risk-based compliance advice across a broad range of retail products and activities. The role spans transactional banking, savings, regulated and unregulated lending, and associated operational and distribution channels (eg digital, telephony).
The role requires flexibility and the ability to support multiple areas of the business, providing end-to-end compliance support and acting as a trusted adviser on regulatory and conduct risk matters.
Core responsibilities:
- Provide accurate, timely and practical compliance advice drawing on relevant conduct regulations (e.g. FCA Handbook), across all retail client segments and product areas.
- Support the business across a broad suite of products including transactional banking (including packaged accounts), savings, regulated lending and unregulated lending.
- Advise on product design, governance and ongoing review, including fair value assessments, client outcomes and Consumer Duty requirements.
- Provide compliance input on distribution channels (e.g. online, digital, telephony) ensuring regulatory requirements and client outcomes are appropriately considered.
- Ensure issues of potential regulatory risk (including potential breaches) are identified, assessed and managed (and/or escalated as required) promptly and appropriately.
- Represent Compliance at internal governance forums across multiple product and risk areas.
- Participate in business risk assessments, control reviews and incident management processes.
- Work with business partners to collate, review and challenge data required to meet regulatory reporting obligations and submissions.
- Identify, track and assess regulatory developments across retail banking, interpreting impact and communicating clear, actionable guidance to stakeholders.
- Assist in the development, review and maintenance of internal policies, standards and procedures across retail compliance topics.
- Support the creation and delivery of regulatory training across a range of subject areas.
- Engage with industry bodies and external forums (e.g. UK Finance) where relevant.
- Provide ad hoc Compliance support across the wider team, responding to emerging priorities and business needs.
- Support the wider compliance function in discharging its role.
Core skills and experience:
- Extensive experience in Compliance.
- Sound knowledge of retail banking products for consumers, with experience working with HNW/private banking clients.
- Ability to think clearly and apply technical regulatory knowledge to commercial demands of business.
- Adept at tracking changed in the market, products, legislation and regulation relevant to the business areas and communicate them out in a digestible manner.
- Ability to read and interpret relevant changes in legislation with reference to [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]'s retail banking activities.
- Ability to effectively help co-ordinate the introduction of operational and regulatory changes to the business via advisory activities always from a 2nd line perspective.
- Good record keeping.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in communicating with a wide audience - a clear, reasoned approach needs to be exhibited.
- Highly motivated with emphasis on attention to detail.
- Strong organisational and analytical skills.
- Problem solving mentality.
- A practical approach and the ability to make clear and concise decisions.
