Principal Accountabilities

Reporting in the DDM Site Buildings Team Manager, the Contract Engineering Lead is part of a Multi-Disciplinary Team and is a representative of the [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Design Delivery Management team. The Contract Engineering Lead is the principal point of contact for the SZ2203/2205 contract within the design delivery management team and shall act as Responsible Designer.

  • Supporting the development of SZ2203/2205 engineering design delivery strategies
  • Ensuring effective engagement with internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing the authoring Scope of Works documentation for Contract Partner(s)
  • Managing the preparation and development of Technical Specifications for design studies
  • Coordinating technical assessment of contracts prior to signature
  • Providing technical management of the Contract(s), including primary point of contact for civil programme project managers
  • Coordinating engineering design activities across Contract Partners
  • Providing technical support to Contract Partner(s)
  • Managing surveillance of Contract Partner(s) detailed design work
  • Ensuring consistency of deliverables with contract specifications and UK Context requirements
  • Implementing effective configuration control processes
  • Managing resolution of transverse engineering issues or risks
  • Ensuring schedules and milestones are consistent with global schedule
  • Agreeing and accepting Contract Partner Design Schedule on behalf of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]
  • Providing and coordinating engineering design gateway requirements and reviews
  • Coordinating Constructability Reviews prior to Readiness Review
  • Managing coordination of stakeholder comments during deliverable review
  • Facilitating design optimisation via modifications, trends and changes
  • Leading discussions with Contract Partner and supporting SZC Project Manager with early warning and compensation events
  • Managing technical interfaces
  • Liaising with SZC Project Manager for scope variations
  • Establishing and updating contract risk register

As a Technical Lead in Their Discipline

  • Provide support to other building coordinators on core discipline
  • Contribute to buildings specification, perform surveillance, provide technical advice

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree qualified or equivalent in civil/structural/architect/process/mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Good knowledge of UK Nuclear Regulations and legislation
  • National Security Vetting, Counter Terrorism Check (NSV CTC)

Desirable

  • Chartership appreciated
  • Basic understanding of EPR design and nuclear fuel cycle
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • Experienced in managing design to meet nuclear safety/security requirements
  • Experience designing facilities to withstand internal/external hazards and security requirements
  • Experience in design management on large multi-discipline infrastructure projects
  • Experience in nuclear industry appreciated
  • Awareness of nuclear safety related constraints
  • Solid technical knowledge of building design and construction
  • Excellent knowledge of engineering procedures, especially RIBA plan of work 2013
  • Experienced in UK building standards and engineering procedures
  • Accuracy, tenacity, diplomacy, results-oriented, leadership
  • Organisational skills with ability to delegate
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills
  • Discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Languages: English (priority), French (appreciated)
  • Strong IT skills and proficiency in engineering software packages

Desirable

  • Knowledge of qualifying equipment for internal/external hazards
  • Experience with products for high security environments
  • Project lifecycle experience (design, qualification, manufacturing, construction, commissioning, site operations)
  • Experience in highly regulated environment
  • Knowledge of conventional industry design activities (RIBA, BSRIA)
  • Previous demonstrable project management experience
