Healthcare assistant - Mental Health / Learning Disabilities

[Employer hidden — view at passion-project.co.uk] is seeking experienced Healthcare Assistants to support adults with learning disabilities and complex mental health needs in Pontefract, West Yorkshire. The role involves providing person-centred care, managing challenging behaviours, and working within multidisciplinary teams. Rate: £15.20/hour inclusive of holiday pay.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering safe, compassionate, and person-centred care
  • Supporting individuals with learning disabilities and mental health conditions
  • Managing challenging behaviours using positive behaviour support
  • Assisting with daily living activities while promoting independence
  • Accurate documentation and reporting of care and incidents
  • Working closely with nurses and allied health professionals
  • Adhering to safeguarding, MCA, and CQC standards

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience as an HCA in learning disability and/or mental health settings
  • Knowledge of mental health conditions, learning disabilities, and complex needs
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour calmly and professionally
  • Strong communication and observation skills
  • Flexibility to work shifts (days/nights/weekends)
  • Right to work in the UK

Desirable Experience

  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care
  • PMVA/MAPA or similar training
  • Experience in supported living, residential, or inpatient services
