Job overview
We are seeking to appoint a dedicated and technically skilled professional to join our IT team in this newly created role. In an increasingly digital educational landscape, schools across the country have become prime targets for cyber attacks, ransomware, and data breaches. The work undertaken by this role is integral to safeguarding our school community and ensuring the ongoing security and integrity of our IT infrastructure.
Recognising the critical importance of cyber security and data protection, we have invested in this specialist position to protect our students, staff, and sensitive information from evolving digital threats. This role goes beyond traditional IT support, combining technical expertise with responsibility for our cyber security posture and compliance with data protection regulations.
The successful candidate will work closely with our IT Manager to maintain and develop our IT systems while actively monitoring for threats, managing security controls, and ensuring robust data governance. This includes implementing security measures, conducting regular audits, responding to incidents, and supporting the school in meeting its obligations under GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
As our IT and Cyber Security Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining the day-to-day operation of our IT infrastructure whilst simultaneously building and maintaining strong defences against cyber threats. You will support staff and students with technical issues, deliver cyber security awareness training, assist with Subject Access Requests, manage our data retention policy, and investigate any data leaks or security incidents.
This role is essential to creating a safe digital environment where teaching and learning can flourish. The successful candidate will ensure that our technology systems are reliable, secure, and compliant, enabling all students and staff to access digital resources confidently and safely. You will be at the forefront of protecting our school community in an increasingly connected world, maintaining the trust placed in us by parents, students, and staff to keep their data and our systems secure.
As a Church of England school, successful applicants will be expected to model the whole school ethos, actively promoting it within their role.
The ideal candidate will be:
- Enthusiastic about protecting our school community and enabling safe access to digital learning resources
- Passionate about removing technical barriers and security threats that could prevent students and staff from accessing learning across the curriculum
- Committed to excellence; maintaining the highest standards of cyber security and data protection to safeguard our students, staff, and information systems
- Dedicated to creating a secure and reliable IT environment where all students can reach their potential through confident use of technology
If so, we would love you to be a part of our journey.

About [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is a co-educational CofE secondary school in West Sussex, serving pupils from the age of 11-16, situated in Worthing. With a pan of 180 per year group, St Andrew’s is a small and community centred school in which every child is known and loved. Having been graded Good in all areas by Ofsted in April 2023, the school continues on its rapid journey of improvement and growth.
St Andrew’s is a community school that has love at its core. You see it in the relationships between staff and students; both in the classrooms and the corridors; and in the excellent pastoral care that every student is given. Students and staff alike have described being part of our school community as being like ‘family’; both giving and receiving unrelenting love. Our core Christian values run through all that we do, both in daily life and in strategic development.
We have the highest expectations and aspirations for all members of our community, and accept nothing less than an individual’s best. We recognise that we are all unique, with unique training and developmental needs – and we aim to give every staff member the best CPD to enable them to reach their career goals, no matter what that goal may be.
Our curriculum is broad and balanced, and enables all students to develop a love of learning alongside focusing on their academic rigour. As we continue to grow, our enrichment offer grows with us – learning does not happen only within a classroom, and our extra-curricular offer continues to develop to reflect this.
We are driven to achieving excellence in all areas, with a keen focus on the narrative journey of the curriculum. We firmly believe that every child can achieve excellence, and that every child has the right to an excellent education.
St Andrew’s is a community that continually seeks to improve, and therefore embraces change and new ideas. There is so much impact to be made within our community, and we work hard to put them, our students, first in all that we do.
