About the role
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking a Youth Worker for its CyberQuest project. CyberQuest is a regional cross-border, cross-community initiative to build essential IT & digital skills ensuring young people are ‘industry ready’ through the medium of youth work.
Through a team approach CyberQuest will engage with 250 young people.
- Developmental Youth Work – 250 young people will engage in projects in local communities that will use educational youth work methodologies to explore issues that impact their lives (masculinities; femininities; violence; safety; peacebuilding; motherhood; fatherhood; education; employment; physical and mental fitness; sexuality etc.) that equips them with the skills to deliver a social action project. Young people will engage in developmental youth work projects for a maximum of 310 hours.
- Accredited Training – 250 young people will engage in a range of accredited training programmes and recognition through Youth Achievement Awards. REIM Training Solutions will complete ICDL and ILM digital skills programme with young people. Both programmes will be completed over 60hrs.
- Inter Group Contact – 250 young people will engage in inter group projects that will bring together groups from different cultural backgrounds to participate in specific activities (i.e. Hunger for Peace Game).

Key Responsibilities
- Recruit – Recruit young people through proactive methods. Identify barriers to participation and mitigate against these. Identify individual needs and create a personal learning and action plan.
- Plan – Involve young people as co-designers of a planned but flexible programme. Make practical arrangements (travel; refreshments; venue etc) within agreed budget. Co-ordinate programme activities with local community partners. Liaise with other partners to create collaborations and opportunities for further cross community and/or cross border engagement.
- Deliver – Provide a menu of options for young people to choose from. Facilitate a range of peace and emotional resilience workshops/sessions. Support REIM Training Solutions with the delivery of the accredited digital skills training. Nurture young people’s ideas for social action projects focusing on cyber security, peace-building and local community needs. Support young people to access virtual and physical hubs for support.
- Record – Ensure that parental consent and young people’s consent forms are kept on file. Ensure that session plans and recordings are kept on file. Ensure a baseline and evaluation system is in place. Provide regular progress reports. Upload regular communications and promotion through social media.
- Review – Follow all financial, monitoring and administrative duties for tasks. Ensure ongoing recording of practice for dissemination and evaluation purposes. Embed critical reflection practices to aid dialogue and action which is current and responsive to need. Identify and undertake training appropriate to the needs of the post in agreement with Line Manager (as part of your Continuous Professional Development).
- General – Support the promotion and marketing of the PEACEPLUS Regional programme in accordance with agreed objectives (any publicity must be agreed with the project co-ordinator). Promote the project outcomes and impact through regular updates on [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s website, social network sites, newsletter and Ezine (adhering to SEUPB guidelines). Maintain administrative systems required to support the work of the project. Work within agreed budgets, as laid down by the Project co-ordinator adhering to [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s financial procedures. Be proactive in the development of resources for peace building through digital IT that enable practitioners to work more effectively with young people. Attend and contribute to relevant meetings (lead partner, funder). Follow [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] policies/procedures, especially adherence to Child Protection Policies and Procedures. Reflect the ethos, policies and practice of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] at all times (adhering to the youth work charter).
Essential Criteria
- JNC/NSETS professionally qualified with Degree in Community Youth Work.
or Youth work qualified to Level 4 i.e. Certificate in Community Youth Studies and have a minimum of 1 years’ experience of delivering community youth work.
or Hold an Honours Degree in a related field (health, social policy, social work, education) and have a minimum of 1 years’ experience of delivering community youth work. - Full driving licence and access to a car to facilitate the requirements of the job.
- Recruitment: proactive recruitment and range of methods to engage young people.
- Retention and support: individual and group-based support to young people.
- Peace-building: cross community, community relations and peace-building through youth work.
- Youth participation: flexible and varied methods of young people in decision-making or advisory roles.
- Social action: nurturing social action through campaigns, protests etc.
- Organisational and administrative skills: Ability to plan, organise, self-manage and self-evaluate.
