Principal Building Inspector
Job Title: Principal Building Inspector (Contract)
Location: Remote (with occasional site visits as required)
Contract Type: Temporary / Contract
Sector: Local Authority Building Control
Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced Principal Building Inspector to support a local authority Building Control team on a contract basis. This is a predominantly remote role, responsible for managing a varied caseload of complex building control applications, ensuring compliance with current building regulations, and providing expert technical guidance.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend site once per week, rest can be done remotely
- Assess and approve plans, specifications, and applications for compliance with building regulations
- Conduct site inspections where necessary to ensure works meet statutory requirements
- Provide professional advice to internal teams, developers, and stakeholders
- Manage complex and high-risk projects, offering expert oversight and decision-making
- Mentor junior staff and support team development as needed
- Ensure all work aligns with relevant legislation, standards, and local authority policies
Requirements
- Class 2E Registered Building Inspector (or working towards)
- Extensive experience in Building Control within a local authority setting (Private sector also considered)
- Strong knowledge of current building regulations and associated legislation
- Ability to manage complex caseloads independently
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Flexible approach to occasional site attendance
