Waste and Recylcing Manager

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is working with an organization seeking an experienced and driven Waste & Recycling Manager to lead the delivery and continuous improvement of their waste and recycling services. This is a key operational leadership role, responsible for ensuring high‑quality, compliant, and cost‑effective services that support the organisation’s environmental objectives and serve our communities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all aspects of the organisation’s waste, recycling, and associated environmental services.
  • Ensure services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with legislation and best practice.
  • Manage budgets, control spend, and deliver value for money.
  • Oversee operational performance, service planning, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental, and waste legislation.
  • Manage, motivate, and develop operational teams and supervisors.
  • Act as the organisation’s professional lead on waste and recycling matters.
  • Liaise with contractors, internal stakeholders, elected Members, and external partners.
  • Support the delivery of the organisation’s sustainability and environmental priorities.

About You

You will be a confident leader with strong operational and technical knowledge of waste and recycling services, ideally gained within a local authority or a similar complex environment.

Essential

  • Significant management experience within waste, recycling, or environmental services.
  • Strong operational management and service delivery expertise.
  • Proven budget management and financial control experience.
  • Sound knowledge of waste legislation, compliance, and health & safety.
  • Experience managing staff, performance, and change.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
