Job Description
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant to support pupil development, SEN support and classroom activities in a primary education setting. This role involves behaviour management, learning support and working closely with teaching staff. If you’ve also worked in the following roles, we’d also like to hear from you: Teaching Assistant, SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor, Classroom Assistant, Pastoral Support Worker, LSA, SEND Assistant. Recent Graduates Considered.
Duties
- Support Learning Activities: Assist teachers in delivering lesson plans and classroom activities
- Provide One-to-One Support: Work with individual pupils, including those with SEN needs
- Facilitate Small Group Work: Support targeted learning groups to improve pupil progress
- Promote Engagement: Keep pupils motivated, focused and on task during lessons
- Manage Behaviour: Support behaviour management in line with school policies
- Assist with Assessments: Help monitor and review pupil progress and learning outcomes
- Supervise Pupils: Provide support during breaktimes and lunchtime activities
- Support Emotional Needs: Build positive relationships and respond to pupil wellbeing needs
- Maintain Safeguarding Standards: Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times
- Collaborate with Staff: Work effectively as part of a team and liaise with teachers and external agencies
Candidate Requirements
- Previous experience working with children in an education or childcare setting
- Experience supporting pupils with social, emotional or communication needs
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to support classroom management and behaviour strategies
- A flexible and adaptable approach to working in different classroom environments
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality requirements
- A calm, patient and supportive approach to working with children
- Ability to organise and prioritise tasks within a structured timetable
- Willingness to learn and undertake relevant training
