FULL DESCRIPTION
Housing Options Officer
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is working with a local authority in Hertfordshire. This is a contract position with a hybrid working arrangement (2 days per week in the office). Salary: £28–£30 per hour. Duration: Initial 6 months with potential for extensions.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing a caseload of applicants under homelessness legislation (Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 & Homelessness Reduction Act 2017)
- Conducting housing needs assessments and producing Personalised Housing Plans (PHPs)
- Making S184 decisions and issuing statutory notifications
- Preventing and relieving homelessness through effective casework and negotiation
- Liaising with landlords, support agencies, and internal teams to secure suitable housing options
- Providing clear, accurate housing advice to applicants in line with legislation and policy
Requirements
- Proven experience working in a Housing Options or Homelessness role within a local authority
- Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation and case law
- Experience managing cases from initial approach through to decision
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
