PSH Officer

Initial 3‑Month Contract | Potential Extension

We are currently seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer (PSHO) to join a Local Authority team in the Sussex region on an initial 3‑month contract, with the potential for extension depending on service needs.

The Role

The successful officer will manage a varied and reactive Private Sector Housing caseload, with key responsibilities including:

  • Responding to and investigating housing conditions complaints
  • Processing and enforcing HMO licence applications
  • Investigating and responding to allegations of illegal eviction and harassment
  • Undertaking formal enforcement action in respect of housing conditions and HMOs, including statutory notices and legal processes
  • Liaising effectively with tenants, landlords, agents, and internal stakeholders

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven experience working as a Private Sector Housing Officer within a local authority
  • Strong background in housing enforcement, particularly relating to housing conditions and HMOs
  • Experience investigating illegal eviction and harassment cases
  • Sound working knowledge and/or experience of Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) applications
  • Experience using Uniform IT systems or similar housing management systems
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer care, and communication skills
