IT Operation Technician at [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] is seeking an IT Operation Technician to join our team. This role involves providing technical support, maintaining IT infrastructure, and ensuring smooth operations.

Job Description

  • Provide staff with technological support, including troubleshooting operating systems, applications, and network issues.
  • Perform routine IT server backup and recovery operations.
  • Identify problems, propose solutions, and suggest Action Plans.
  • Analyse systems and make recommendations to improve performance.
  • Configure and set up new server systems.
  • Administer, monitor and support internal/external networks, servers, e-mail and security systems.
  • Setup of technology and configuration for the institution, academic and community events.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate must possess a minimum of a master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with at least five years of relevant experience. Applicants with a bachelor’s degree and passion for technology and sound knowledge of technical systems may also apply.

Other required skills are:

  • Reliable, numerate, methodical, meticulous, thorough and adaptable
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work with staff at all levels in the University
  • A willingness to work as part of a team with an approachable and helpful attitude, and capable of taking a lead role in a team when required
  • Good at problem resolution; able to work on own initiative, but not afraid to take advice or escalate as necessary and to prioritise multiple, and often conflicting, demands
  • Working knowledge of transmission media such as optical fibre, wireless and associated standards
  • Practical experience with fibre and/or copper network diagnostic equipment
  • Able to find, comprehend and apply appropriate technical information.
