SEND Teaching Assistant

Job Description
Working alongside class teachers and inclusion staff, SEND Teaching Assistants support pupils with additional needs. The focus is on providing tailored academic and emotional support, adapting tasks where needed, and helping pupils feel secure and confident in the classroom. Strong communication, patience, and consistency are essential, alongside a clear understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
- Supports pupils with SEND in lessons and structured interventions.
- Works closely with teachers to adapt learning activities.
- Promotes confidence, independence, and positive behaviour.
- Maintains safeguarding, care, and wellbeing standards.
Desired Experience + Qualifications
- Experience supporting pupils with PMLD and complex needs
- Confidence in using or a willingness to learn Makaton
- Ability to assist non-verbal students
- Strong understanding of SEND strategies and personalised support
