Catering Assistant

Role Overview

This role supports the delivery of a safe, high‑quality patient catering service within a hospital environment. You will assist with meal preparation and service, work closely with ward teams, and ensure patient needs are met with care, dignity, and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

• Support patient meal services at ward level, including serving meals in correct portions and following dietary, allergen, and Trust procedures.
• Use a patient meal‑ordering tablet to accurately record and manage orders.
• Work in cold conditions within the RDU preparation kitchen.
• Assist with meal preparation, plating, and distribution.
• Clean patient catering areas and equipment daily in line with Food Safety, Health & Safety, and Infection Control standards.
• Communicate effectively with patients, ward staff, managers, and colleagues.

What We're Looking For

Caring, patient‑focused approach. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Previous experience in patient or healthcare catering is desirable but not essential. Comfortable using digital devices such as tablets. Good numeracy, literacy, and communication skills. Reliability, organisation, adaptability, and good time management.
