FULL DESCRIPTION

Home Manager | Dementia Specialist Care Home

Location: Colchester

Salary: £70,000 - £75,000 per annum + Bonus

About the Role

Are you a Home Manager who enjoys working in complex dementia services where quality really matters? Do you prefer building on a solid, well-run home rather than walking into a crisis? Are you commercially aware and confident driving occupancy while maintaining high standards of care? If so, this could be a really interesting opportunity.

We’re working with an established care provider looking for a Home Manager to lead a medium sized dementia service in Essex. The home supports residents with high-acuity needs and has recently had significant investment so the environment is modern, well-presented, and set up to deliver high-quality care. From an operational point of view, the home is in a good place. Occupancy is sitting at around 90%, staffing is stable with very little agency use, and internal audits are strong across the board. This isn’t a turnaround role. It’s about taking a service that’s fundamentally working well and pushing it forward - tightening up performance, growing occupancy, and continuing to develop the team. The provider themselves are well-regarded, invest properly in their homes, and give their managers a good level of autonomy while still offering support when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility for the running of a Medium Sized Dementia Specialist Nursing Home
  • Maintaining and improving standards of care and compliance
  • Driving occupancy and supporting growth of the private/self-pay offering
  • Leading and developing a stable, experienced team
  • Reviewing staffing levels to ensure efficiency alongside quality
  • Building relationships with families, commissioners, and the local community

The Ideal Candidate

  • Experienced Home Manager, ideally within Dementia or Complex Care
  • Comfortable managing higher-acuity resident needs
  • NVQ Level 5 (or working towards)
  • Track record of maintaining or improving standards and performance
  • Commercially aware, particularly around occupancy and self-pay growth
  • A steady, confident leader who can build on what’s already working well

The Home

  • Medium Sized Dementia Specialist Nursing Home focused on high-acuity care
  • Recently benefited from significant investment
  • Occupancy currently around 90%
  • Stable staffing with minimal agency use
  • Strong internal audit performance and no safeguarding concerns
  • Clear opportunity to improve efficiency and grow the service commercially

Summary

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Home Manager who doesn’t want a turnaround, but still wants a role where they can make a visible impact. With a salary of £70,000 - £75,000 plus bonus, it offers the chance to take on a well-invested, stable service and move it forward both operationally and commercially.
