Core Purpose
Responsible for the safe execution and coordination of Balance of Plant activities across offshore wind projects. The role focuses on mechanical, structural, and auxiliary systems and provides competent technical leadership during construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance phases. The BOP Lead Technician provides day-to-day leadership to a small offshore team, coordinating tasks, maintaining standards of safety and quality, and acting as the primary technical point of contact between the team and offshore supervision. The BOP Lead Technician operates within defined procedures, task instructions, and project controls, ensuring all activities are carried out in compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements. The role supports multidisciplinary offshore teams and interfaces with OEMs, contractors, and client representatives as required. This role does not confer electrical authorisation or independent system control unless explicitly appointed and authorised under project-specific arrangements.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
- Balance of Plant Activities: Execute and coordinate BOP activities in accordance with project procedures; carry out inspection, installation support, maintenance, and preservation activities on BOP systems; identify defects and support corrective actions.
- Technical Support and Interface: Provide competent technical support; interface with electrical, commissioning, and OEM teams; support preparation for construction and handover phases.
- Team Leadership and Coordination: Lead a small team of BOP technicians; coordinate task execution; ensure understanding of task scope, hazards, and controls; monitor work quality; act as first point of escalation; mentor less experienced technicians.
- Health, Safety, Quality and Environment (HSEQ): Comply with HSEQ requirements; lead toolbox talks, risk assessments, and method statement reviews; identify and report hazards; promote positive safety culture.
- Documentation and Reporting: Complete work records, inspection reports, checklists; provide feedback on task progress; support close-out activities.
- Tools, Equipment and Systems: Ensure safe use of tools and equipment; carry out pre-use checks; report defects.
QHSE Responsibilities

Comply with [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Group Policies and responsibilities. Promote a proactive health and safety culture, environmental sustainability, and quality culture.
Skills and Experience
- Essential: Demonstrable experience in offshore or similar regulated environments (offshore wind, oil & gas); proven competence in BOP activities; experience leading small offshore work parties; good understanding of offshore safe systems of work; ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams; strong HSEQ awareness.
- Desirable: Experience on offshore wind projects during construction, commissioning, or operations; familiarity with access systems, secondary steel, temporary works; experience interfacing with OEMs, contractors, and client representatives; defect identification and close-out experience.

- GWO Offshore Survival and Safety Training
- GWO Advanced Rescue Training
- ISOH Managing Safely and/or Site Supervisor Safety Training (CITB) or equivalent
