Core Purpose

  • Responsible for ensuring the safe storage, handling, and regulatory compliance of chemical products.
  • This role combines technical chemical knowledge with asset management responsibilities, including oversight of bulk storage systems and pipework integrity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and approve tank compatibility for chemicals, ensuring safe storage and prevent adverse reactions.
  • Lead the onboarding of new bulk products, including hazard identification, compatibility assessments, and storage requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with dangerous goods regulations, including classification, segregation, and labelling requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and review COSHH assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations relating to diisocyanates, including safe handling procedures and training requirements.
  • Maintain and update the Written Scheme of Examination (WSE) in line with statutory inspection standards.
  • Organise and track bulk chemical storage, ensuring accurate records of tank contents, capacities, movements, and availability.
  • Maintain and manage the bulk storage tracker, ensuring data accuracy and visibility for operations and safety teams.
  • Monitor and coordinate pipework and asset integrity, including inspection schedules, maintenance tracking, and compliance with safety standards.
  • Work closely with engineering and maintenance teams to ensure the integrity of pipeline and storage infrastructure is maintained.
  • Support internal and external audits by ensuring all chemical safety and asset documentation is current and compliant.
  • Collaborate with operations, safety, and engineering teams to promote best practices in chemical handling, storage, and asset management.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience in chemical handling, bulk storage, or industrial operations environments.
  • Strong understanding of chemical compatibility, hazard identification, and risk assessment.
  • Knowledge of dangerous goods regulations and COSHH requirements.
  • Experience in asset integrity, inspection planning, or maintenance coordination is highly desirable.
  • Experience working as a Process Engineer, with a strong understanding of process optimisation, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency is desirable.
  • Excellent organisational, analytical, and record-keeping skills.
  • Experience with bulk liquid storage systems and transfer operations is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Written Schemes of Examination (WSE) and inspection frameworks is desirable.
  • Knowledge of pipework systems, integrity management, or mechanical asset tracking is desirable.
  • Knowledge of (Lower Tier) COMAH Regulations is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific discipline is essential.
  • Health and Safety or chemical compliance certifications are desirable.
