Teacher of Psychology & Criminology
[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal], Gravesend, is hiring a Teacher of Psychology & Criminology for a maternity cover fixed-term position (Fte 1.0) from September 2026 to April 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to join a high performing 11-18 selective girls’ school and teach Psychology and Criminology at both GCSE and A Level. Job Description
Post Title: Classroom Teacher
Purpose: To implement and deliver an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students and to support a designated curriculum area as appropriate. To monitor and support the overall progress and development of students as a teacher/Form Tutor. To facilitate and encourage a learning experience which provides students with the opportunity to achieve their individual potential. To contribute to raising standards of student attainment. To share and support the school’s responsibility to provide and monitor opportunities for personal and academic growth. To play a full part in the life of the school community, to support its distinctive ethos and to encourage colleagues and students to follow this example.
Reporting to: Curriculum Leader
Main Duties
- Assist in the development of appropriate syllabuses, resources, schemes of work, marking policies and teaching strategies.
- Contribute to the Curriculum Area development plan and its implementation.
- Teach students according to their educational needs, including setting and marking work.
- Assess, record and report on student progress.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with school procedures.
- Serve as Form Tutor to promote student progress and welfare.
- Support the school’s safeguarding and health & safety policies.
- Participate in extra-curricular activities such as the Mayfield Challenge and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award.
Subject Details
The successful candidate will teach the AQA A-Level Psychology course and AQA GCSE Psychology syllabus. Criminology units include Changing Awareness of Crime, Criminological Theories, From Crime Scene to Court Room, and Crime and Punishment. The ability to teach another Social Sciences subject (Sociology, Law) is desirable.
