The Role
We are seeking an Employment and Expat Tax Manager to join our Group Tax team, reporting to the Director of Tax. This role combines global mobility tax expertise with strong UK employment tax knowledge, supporting a dynamic and internationally mobile workforce.
Key Responsibilities
- Expat (Global Mobility) Tax Compliance: Partner with the Global Mobility team, oversee expat payroll and tax vendor relationships, support compliance across home and host countries (LTIPs, bonuses, termination payments, pension contributions), ensure pension plans are tax-efficient, provide guidance on business travel tax risks, support tax protection policies, collaborate with finance teams, and address evolving global employment tax challenges.
- UK and Employment Taxes: Ensure full compliance with UK employment tax reporting (PSA, Appendices 4/7B/8, Section 690, P11Ds), manage employment tax aspects of employee benefits, act as primary HMRC contact, support Senior Accounting Officer certification, oversee IR35 assessments, advise on remote working tax implications, partner with Finance, provide M&A due diligence input, identify tax efficiencies, deliver training, and line manage a Tax Analyst.
Required Skills and Experience
- 3–5 years’ experience in expat (global mobility) tax compliance, including tax equalisation and hypothetical tax calculations
- Strong working knowledge of UK employment tax compliance requirements
- Experience managing cross-border tax obligations
- Solid understanding of accounting principles
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver under pressure
Desirable: Understanding of international employment tax frameworks; professional tax qualification (CTA, ATT or equivalent).
