BI Developer

A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our Data Strategy department within our Finance and Performance Management Directorate. As BI Developer, you’ll play a central role in shaping how data flows through [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] and how it is used to drive informed decision-making across the organisation. Working within the Data team and reporting to the Head of Data Strategy, you’ll design, develop and maintain the integrations, data models and Power BI reporting solutions that underpin [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s business intelligence capability — including supporting the delivery of Project Beacon, our significant digital transformation programme.

What will you be doing as a BI Developer?

  • Design, build and maintain data integrations from internal and third-party systems — including the Mews Hospitality Management System being introduced through Project Beacon — into [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s data warehouse.
  • Develop and enhance data models to support high‑performance reporting and analytics.
  • Create and manage core metrics, aggregated datasets and transformations that underpin business and customer insight.
  • Deliver and support high-quality Power BI dashboards and reports that provide clear, accessible insight to colleagues across the organisation — from operational managers to senior leaders — and support the development of self-service analytics capability.
  • Contribute to [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s evolving data capability, working within the governance frameworks set by the Head of Data Strategy and supporting the organisation’s vision of a single source of truth.
  • Support and maintain BI tools, reporting solutions and system integrations to ensure reliability, accuracy and accessibility.
  • Ensure data quality, integrity and compliance through robust testing, documentation and ongoing monitoring.
  • Collaborate closely with system owners, analysts and project teams, supporting data migrations and system change activity.
  • Support and enable [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal]’s data analysts, sharing best practice and helping to build data capability across the organisation as [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] develops its analytical function.

What Skills and Experience do you need to be a BI Developer?

  • Substantial experience designing and delivering business intelligence and data warehousing solutions using SQL Server, SSIS and SSAS.
  • Strong experience developing reporting and analytics solutions using Power BI and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Experience working within a data governance framework, with an understanding of data standards, quality requirements and compliance obligations.
  • Advanced SQL skills, with a strong understanding of BI principles, data modelling and database design.
  • Proven experience delivering data migrations, managing data quality, and working with data protection and governance requirements.
  • Experience with Business Objects and/or QlikView would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly organised and self‑motivated, able to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Clear and confident communicator, able to translate complex technical concepts into accessible insight for non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience monitoring and supporting business intelligence systems, including providing out‑of‑hours support on a rotational basis and minimising disruption when issues arise.
