Job Overview
This is an opportunity for a committed mental health professional to work in Early Intervention services across Wiltshire. We have one permanent Band 6 post available. The post involves using psychosocial interventions and working with people experiencing a first episode psychosis. The role also involves working with carers and families. The service is part of [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] Trust wide Early Intervention Service with Southwest and national networks following national guidance for Early Intervention in Psychosis Services. You must be an excellent communicator, have a flexible approach, and a good knowledge base of the principles of Early Intervention in Psychosis. Please note that Wiltshire EI is a county wide service and team members may be required to travel to any location in Wiltshire.
Main Duties of the Job
- To assess service users referred to the Wiltshire Early Intervention Service with suspected psychosis using the CAARMS assessment tool across the Wiltshire wide catchment area.
- Within the role of care co-ordination, to plan and deliver specialist programmes of care following the NICE guidelines for first episode of psychosis.
- To work within the multi-disciplinary team, attend and contribute to team discussions, and liaise with other professionals.
- To liaise and work in collaboration with other [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] teams, local CAMHS services and non [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] agencies.
- To support and work alongside service users aged 14 to 65 and their families in recovery from first episode psychosis.
- To support the delivery of carers education programmes and provide psychoeducation and advice.
- To identify and manage risks arising during recovery.
- To provide clinical supervision to junior staff, students and support workers.
- To support the National Clinical Audit of Psychosis (NCAP) by ensuring clinical documentation is up to date.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities
- Work within the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service delivering all components of the established model.
- Provide comprehensive specialist assessment of people aged 14-65 referred with first episode psychosis, using formal rating scales and liaison with carers and agencies.
- Provide advice and assist team members with interventions drawing on own specialist professional knowledge.
- Provide advice and support to carers/relatives, and structured family work to families where a person has first episode psychosis.
- Receive regular clinical supervision and participate in caseload supervision arrangements.
- Participate in development and delivery of teaching and training.
- Provide clinical supervision for students, support workers and junior staff.
- Comply with all policies, procedures and directives of the Early Intervention for Psychosis Service and the Trust.
- Maintain professional standards through cooperative work and involvement in audit.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential: Professional qualification and registration in mental health nursing, social work or occupational therapy.
Desirable: At least 2 years post registration experience.
Experience
Essential: Experience of and commitment to multi-disciplinary working.
Desirable: Previous experience in community setting and in working with first episode psychosis.
Skills
Essential: Clean driving license and access to a car.
Knowledge
Essential: Good knowledge and skills in psychiatric assessment/formulation with client group.
Desirable: Experience of assessing psychosis via standardised assessment tools.
