Band 7 Ward Manager - Callington Road Hospital, Bristol

[Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] (AWP) is hiring a Band 7 Ward Manager for Cherry Ward at Callington Road Hospital, Bristol. This is a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours/week) with a salary of £49,387 - £56,515 per annum.

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced, values-driven Ward Manager to lead Cherry Ward, an 18-bed mixed acute inpatient mental health ward. This role offers the opportunity to provide strong clinical leadership, shape high-quality trauma-informed care, and support both service users and staff to thrive. Cherry Ward delivers recovery-focused care for people experiencing acute mental health crises.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visible, compassionate leadership to the MDT.
  • Be accountable for clinical quality, safety, and standards of care.
  • Promote a therapeutic, recovery-focused ward environment.
  • Support staff development through supervision, appraisal, and education.
  • Work collaboratively with service users, carers, community teams, and senior leaders.
  • Lead service improvement, quality governance, and Safewards implementation.
  • Manage staffing, acuity, and ward resources effectively.

Main Duties

Provide strong clinical leadership to deliver safe, confidential, person-centred mental health care, ensuring compliance with NMC standards, Mental Health legislation, Trust policies, and medicines management. Act as a visible professional role model, leading effective communication within the MDT and with external partners. Lead recruitment, induction, supervision, appraisal, mandatory training compliance, and staff development. Ensure safe and effective use of staffing and manage ward budgets. Maintain high standards of documentation, clinical governance, health and safety, risk management, audits, KPIs, and CQC compliance.

Person Specification

Essential: Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with current NMC registration. Significant inpatient experience. Strong leadership and people-management skills. Desirable: Management experience, Deputy Ward Manager or Senior Charge Nurse experience.
