The Opportunity
We are looking to recruit an experienced energy market leader for a Senior Commercial Originator role to lead Route-to-Market function of the Network Infrastructure Team in Germany. This role will be responsible for de-risking forward-looking revenues for our large-scale portfolio of battery energy storage assets through toll contracts that deliver guaranteed revenues. Working with the Chief Commercial Officer and other members of the Network Infrastructure team, the role will manage relationships with Route to Market providers and other partners to secure toll contracts, offtakes, and other hedge products. The role includes liaising with clients and external stakeholders, supporting lobbying efforts, and travel to the UK. Reporting into the Country Director of Network Infrastructure Germany, this role will be at the heart of securing contracts for 1GW/4GWh storage projects by 2030.
A Taste of the Day to Day
- Overall responsibility for maximising contracted revenues from battery energy storage assets
- Leading origination and development of commercial hedging products for transmission level large scale energy storage projects
- Developing strategic partnerships to support scaling of the business
- Managing senior level relationships with Route to Market (RTM) Providers
- Supporting day-to-day business case development activities of projects until deal closure
- Lobbying to enhance revenue streams for BESS
- Contributing to the strategy process – identifying contracting and hedging opportunities to take [Employer hidden — sign up to reveal] experience to other European markets
- Liaising with international teams to support commercial contract negotiations
- Proactively identifying value accretive opportunities on existing assets and presenting proposals to the Investment Committee
- Implementing best practice project development processes
- Developing inhouse market insight (trends, strategies)
- Contributing to the NI strategy and understanding regulatory impact on project revenues
- Working with Asset Management team to ensure contract compliance
- Working with Corporate Finance team to ensure bankability of projects
- Ensuring portfolio risks and issues are managed and reported

A Bit About You
Essential competencies:
- German speaking and fluent in English
- Excellent understanding of the German energy market
- High quality education (bachelor’s or master’s) preferably in engineering, economics or finance
- Solid work experience (>10 years) within trading sector in the energy sector (B2B), preferably in energy storage or renewables
- Experience of managing trading and settlements process
- Experience in energy storage and renewables
- Detailed understanding of revenue optimisation, PPAs, and trading strategies
- Strong commercial skills – comfortable with legal contracts
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting sophisticated contracts and sales pitches
- Strong organisation skills, team player and attention to detail
- Desire to work in a fast moving, high pressure and entrepreneurial environment
- Outstanding Excel and PowerPoint skills
- A genuine passion in clean energy and our social and environmental mission
- Strong partner relationship management experience
- Senior team leadership - ability to manage and motivate professional people
