Job Description

You will be based in Manchester, joining a team of over 80 professionals working on a major overhaul project for the Class 390 Avanti High Speed Trains. Purpose of Role

You will be working as part of the overhaul team to service, maintain, repair and overhaul rolling stock and equipment, including the latest generation in train technology to laid down Vehicle Maintenance Instructions. Ensuring all Overhaul activities are carried out in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner, whilst constantly seeking to improve quality.

Location & Hours

  • Manchester Train Care Centre, Longsight, M12 4HR
  • Shift Pattern: Days and Nights on a 2 week shift rotation (once project is in full operation)
  • Hours: 48 hours per week average over a 4week period
  • Days: 07:00-18:00 / 07:00-15:00
  • Nights: 19:00-06:00 / 20:00-07:00

Pay & Benefits

  • Pre 12 weeks: PAYE £28.27/hr or Umbrella £36.59/hr
  • Post 12 weeks: PAYE £30.45/hr or Umbrella £41.58/hr
  • Additional retainer of £1.00/hr on all hours worked (subject to tooling return and project completion)

  • Tooling provided by the Client
  • On-site Messroom, coverall cleaning, changing facilities with lockers and showers

Qualifications & Skills

  • Recognised qualification: HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, NVQ Level 3 electrical engineering or equivalent
  • Practical experience and sound knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering aspects of modern EMU
  • Technical experience in mechanical and electrical engineering
  • IT Skills - competent user of PC including office packages
  • Rolling Stock experience preferred
  • Must live within reasonable travelling distance to Manchester City Centre
  • Right to work in the UK and proof of technical qualification

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to the Overhaul team in fault-finding and train repair/maintenance/test
  • Partake in gathering data downloads on critical performance systems
  • Undertake static testing and dynamic test runs post Overhaul
  • Position fault data into shared drive
  • Carry out fault finding and investigate faults
  • Component exchange
  • Testing & Re-Commissioning activities
  • Functionally test train borne systems using computer-based diagnostics
  • Assist with validation of documentation
  • General depot duties, Alista/SAP/SES input
  • Crane driving and lifting equipment where trained
  • Mentoring others
  • Comply with safety notices, H&SAWA, COSHH, and client lifesaving rules
