We provide technical advice on Flood Risk Assessments, drainage strategies, SuDS design, and flood modelling for development projects, planning authorities, and private clients.

The Role

As a Graduate Flood Risk & Drainage Consultant, you will assist with Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies for advisory and development projects. You will develop skills in technical analysis, report preparation, drainage design, client engagement, and regulatory liaison. Structured mentoring and review support your development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing Flood Risk Assessments in accordance with NPPF and local policy
  • Assessing flood risk from all sources (fluvial, pluvial, groundwater, etc.)
  • Designing Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) using CIRIA guidance
  • Preparing foul and surface water drainage strategy reports
  • Using GIS (QGIS) and AutoCAD for mapping and drawings
  • Supporting Sequential/Exception Tests and planning strategy discussions

Qualifications & Experience

Essential: Bachelor's/Master's in Geography, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering or related. Interest in flood risk and drainage. Strong written communication. Comfort with technical datasets and GIS (QGIS preferred). Analytical and methodical approach.

Desirable: Exposure to drainage modelling software (Causeway Flow, MicroDrainage), AutoCAD experience, prior internship or relevant work experience, knowledge of NPPF/TAN15, CIWEM membership.
